2 weeks ago the Aviso EIA crew, along with some of our Authorised Representative Network, Piranha Insurance Brokers, Stellar Insurance Brokers, West Insurance Brokers and Helm Insurance Services descended on the Royal Pine Resort for the CQIB Conference. What a weekend it was!
We had presentations on Data, AI & Automation which really made us think. Our world is ever changing and changing quicker than ever before. It really was food for thought.
Then heard from Daniel Burke from Adjuster Corp who gave us an insight to some real cases that he has been a part of. He had the room wanting to know more, from rogue Manager running covert operations to benefit his own personal financial gains to some bad ass bikers trying to launder money through via a claim.
Daniels involvement helped mitigate ongoing losses through fraudulent claims not only to help the insurer but to also help the insured. It reinforced the importance of having an experienced Insurance Broker working for their client, as they were able to bring Insurers, Adjuster and the Insured together in partnership to investigate the circumstances of the ongoing losses. All parties were able to work through a united process to resolve the matter and puts steps in place to prevent a re-occurrence. Like any partnership, the more open and honest the partnership is the less chance there is of conflict and dispute.
The day continued with a chat about the hard market we are all currently in and finished with a discussion on the Royal Commission. We finished off Friday by attending a dinner sponsored by CGU.
With everyone up bright and early the next morning we started the day off with a session around Travel Risk Management Strategies and over the day continued to cover off topics like Phoenixing and KRE through to the ins and outs of annual construction polices. Colin Fagen joined us from Blue Zebra spoke to us about the state of the Australian Market.
The day continued with QBE speaking with us about navigating the future (of claims). This was a fantastic insight to how technology will assist clients, brokers and insurers in the future with claims. The drone technology to be onsite, assess the claim and advise the insurer immediately of the extent of the damage will assist in stopping any repair delays. It was an exciting chat to see how the client will benefit from the ever-increasing world of technology.
We also heard from the likes of Adam Brown about his time on the Sword of Orion and the situation that presented the crew on board during that ill – fated Sydney to Hobart yacht race in 1998. Truly inspirational actions by the crew and their rescuers.
Liz Ellis finished our sessions off the conference and was one of the best motivational talks we have ever heard. As a team we all really resonated with one particular saying she gave us, “If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me”. Liz highlighted the importance of setting and achieving realistic goals, both as a team and as individuals.
We all agreed she was exceptionally funny, her persistence and the things she did to get ahead in the game were admirable. Her setbacks and drive to overcome them showed so much strength. There were little things she changed in her team to make the trust between them stronger, it didn’t necessarily have to be a big thing. Wearing their uniform to practices, putting their arms around each other during the anthem etc. We really took as a team so much away from this talk. Thanks Liz.
Before the day was over the ladies of the conference, were all able to enjoy a high tea together, and that view is breathtaking. But the day wasn’t finished yet as we all quickly ran off to our room to get ready for the last dinner of the conference. Big thanks to QBE for sponsoring the dinner and having such a fun theme for the evening of “Colour the night away – 80s style.”
In colour we went….. La la la-la la la, sing a happy song. La la la-la la la, smurf the whole day long………….. check out all the pictures.
A very big thank you to everyone that contributed to bringing this conference together. The amount that is taken away from these events not just for our professional development, but also our personal development we are truly grateful for.
