National Volunteer Week (NVW) is the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. #NVW2018
From 21–27 May 2018, thousands of events were held across the country to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time. Aviso EIA were proud to participate in a FoodBank event which saw Jordan Threadgate, Kass Carroll, Stacey Ritchie and Ally Williamson from Aviso EIA Brisbane volunteer their time in the warehouse to pack from toiletry and personal care items through to baby needs and food.
Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing 60 million meals a year to over 2400 charities and 1000 schools around the country.
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2018 is Give a little. Change a lot. We discovered what this really means when we visited Foodbank this week.
Did you know that;
The Australian Government has estimated that food loss and food waste combined costs the Australian economy $20 billion per annum but at the same time, a shocking 3.6 million Australians, or 15% of the population, have experienced uncertainty around where their next meal is coming from in the last 12 months? And they are not who you’d think. Almost half of food insecure Australians are employed and 2 in 5 of these households are families with dependent children.
There are so many ways to help to reduce food waste and provide food for those who need it the most and one of the easiest ways is to volunteer at Foodbank. Visit https://www.foodbankqld.org.au/want-to-help/volunteer/
